Hytera MD782 review

This time I’m writing a small review of my Hytera MD782 mobile radio – the latest newcomer in Hytera.

MD782 is my second Hytera radio and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I can corfirm Hytera’s build-in quality is superb – this unit is robust and well build. All the knobs are sturdy and you can actually feel the quality.

Hytera MD782 is IP54 certified which makes it dust and splash proof.

Programming the radio

Hytera MD782 doesn’t come with a programming cable which will cost you around $80. The cable has a small dongle with a switch to select either programming or firmware uploading mode. Be sure to select programming mode before plugging it in.

HYTERA DMR - The easy way to change a Hytera code plug in minutes

When you say new CPS, what version are you refering too?  Only 7.xx?  I have 5.xx and 6.01 versions and the file extention for a code plug is "rcd" not "rcdx". I have a PD782G and do not have CPS 7.xx . Will this trick work on these versions of codeplugs and CPS or only on the newest codeplugs/CPS?

Hytera New Firmware Upgrade Available

There is a new version of the Hytera Upgrade available. This takes you to V6.05.07.006 firmware version. This upgrade offers at first sight no new functionality. Also, you can not with this firmware code plug of a GPS radio with a GPS radio without writing. This is an advantage in itself because it has been found in the past that radios without GPS went anyway transmit data. But we bring all Hytera radios through this upgrade at the same level so that different plugs new longer required. The code plugs for radios with firmware they are available on this site. The upgrade should take place according to the enclosed instructions. The upgrade has been tested on a MD785 (see below). As always, we want to emphasize that upgrading the use or manipulation of code plugs is at your own risk.
The Upgrade Kit can be found here .

[HYTERA] Contact List Import

I am new to the HYTERA group. I have been trying to import a contact list into an MD782 without success. The contact list in the file section of this group was merged with a file I exported from the radio that had only a few contacts.

The new contacts were copied and pasted into the original Excel file and the first column renumbered. I used Excel 2007 and the file looks OK. I have a total of 225 entries. The file successfully imports without error, but the new contacts do not show up in the DMR contact list after the operation is complete. I am not sure how many contacts are allowed. Anyone know for sure how many? I tried creating a smaller file with 195 contacts with the same results. Adding contacts manually through CPS works fine. CPS and firmware are 5.00x

DMR / D-STAR Gateway

The Germans have done it again!

From the folks that brought us the ircDDB network, we hear from Hans-Jürgen Barthen, DL5DI, that there is now a gateway between D-STAR (DCS Gateways) and Hytera DMR Repeaters using the AMBEServer with either the DV3000 or ThumbDV™.  This gateway is in use at a handful of DMR repeaters in Germany and Austria with systems soon to be implemented in Sweden and Switzerland.
You can download executables for the gateway and combine with the AMBEServer to create your own gateway. The software does D-STAR callsign to DMR radio ID mapping and transports audio between networks using the Hytera API.

Hytera DMR Radio Reviews

I have three Hytera DMR radios.  The MD782G Mobile, PD782G HT and the PD362 micro-HT.

MD782G

This is a nice mobile.  Unlike the XPR4550 is has a color LCD screen, affording you a little more information in an easier to read format.  Beyond that, the radio is very similar to the XPR4550 in form factor and feature set.  I plan to make this my primary mobile in my vehicle and put the XPR4550 with it’s separation kit in the XYL’s car.  There is also a remote separation kit for the MD782G, but it runs ~$300.  I’m not sure why it’s so expensive.  I plan to investigate at some point.

One slightly annoying think is that the Hytera’s all display an “End of Call” notification when the repeater closes squelch.  Even though you don’t hear the squelch close, it’s the best way that I can explain it.  On your traditional analog amateur repeater, we’re used to hearing the courtesy tone followed by a short squelch tail.  Imagine that at the end of the squelch tail the radio would display “End of Call.”  It also beeps when ending the call, but I was able to find a software setting to turn that tone off, which makes this notification significantly more tolerable.
